SuperPower Salad @ Grll’d #FoodReview

SuperSalad2

I was out yesterday to have some fun and explore Ipswich, a beautiful city 40 km outskirt of Brisbane in Queensland.

So after a good swim (playing with water), at the Robelle Domain lagoon, Springfield Central I decided it was time for lunch.

After a quick browse of the different restaurants and cafes located in the Orion Springfield central mall, we settled for ‘Grll’d’, a cafe with specialty in burgers and salads. I had a cook glance at their menu looking for something healthy to eat. Grill’d as stated on their menu, “uses 100 % grass fed beef & lamb and chicken that is 100% free from antibiotics & added hormones”, so I fell in love with the brand philosophy and ordered the ‘SuperPower Salad’.

Ingredients.

Grilled chicken breast

Avocado

Beetroot

Almonds

Cherry tomatoes

Cos Lettuce

Carrot

Mint

Extra virgin olive oil

Quinoa (extra at $1.50)

Food came right on time after ordering, in fact I was looking at the chef through the transparent kitchen glass while he was preparing it.

I love the shape of the plate and presentation was cool.

I started to eat with an expectation for some ‘yumminess’ in my mouth.

The chicken wasn’t sweet, it was as if nothing (salt, spice) was added to it at all.

I also feel with the extra $1.50 I paid for Quinoa, there should be some good quantity in the salad but it looks it was just sprinkled on it.

Overall, for $15.00 worth of salad, my expectation was higher than what I got. An extra dash of olive oil would have made the salad juicer too.

I score the food 5/10.

The staff no doubt are good and friendly and the cafe setup was cool.

I will be back again to try a burger.

Best Salmon In Town #Brisbane, Australia.

While taking a tour of Brisbane city (Australia) , I stumbled on a farmer’s market that occurs every Wednesday at the Brisbane city square right in front of the city library . There is a variety of fresh farm produce on display and available for sale. Most are sold directly by the farmers or their staff.

While walking through the various stalls, I came across  a stall  operated by a very hard working woman. She was the one handling the wood grilled Salmon, packing and selling them .

I was impressed by her strength and service so I decided to buy one of Salmon , wow my first bite took me off my feet, by the time I finished eating the slice I bought, I was in the cloud. Every bit of the fish tasted nice and the effect of the wood grill on the fish was second to none. It served as my lunch.

When next you are in Brisbane CBD on a Wednesday, please make sure you lookout for wood-fired Salmon stand to get the best Salmon in town at the Jan Powers Farmers Market.

BRISBANE, Australia #MyCity

I went around my city of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia posing as a tourist.

I love this city so much, as it is full of life and constantly evolving to become one of the future cities of the world.

Brisbane can be divided into 3 places of interest, for a tourist who has got only few hours to spare and this can be done in half a day while you are here attending a conference, summit or just passing by.

The 3 places are;

 1. Fortitude Valley

This is home to places like China town, numerous clubs and restaurants of Asian origin, top of the range car shops like (Mercedes Benz, BMW, Land rover, Jaguar, Volvo). I will get photos from this location on another day.

2. South Bank/South Brisbane

This is the home of fine dining with all the side attractions you can think of. There are lots of restaurants, hotels, offices, residential apartments, educational institutions, hospitals and entertainment sites. It is home to the Queensland museum, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Brisbane Convention Centre, The Wheel of Brisbane, ABC news station, The Mater hospital, The Maritime Museum and a host of other tourist attractions.

3. Brisbane Central Business District (Brisbane CBD).

Popular streets are Queen, George, Adelaide, Edward, Ann, Eagle streets.

This is the heart of Brisbane city. It is the seat of state government and the Brisbane city council. It is home to shopping malls like the Queens Plaza, which consists of top brands like the David Jones and designer fashion shops like Zara, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel.

Queen Street is the most popular street because of the food court and various shops and side attestations like musical bands performing all year round celebrating one occasion or the other. My favourite restaurant on Queen Street is ‘Jim on the Mall’ known for their yummylicious Moreton Bay bugs which is a dish work every cent spent.

Numerous hotel brands like The Hilton, Sofitel, The Marriott (where president Barrack Obama & the US team resided in while here for the G20 summit), NEXT Hotels, Stamford Plaza, Mercure & Ibis, Casinos, pubs, clubs, residential apartments like the Meriton (they have the tallest building on Herschel street consisting of 80 floors) and various corporate offices of multinationals dot the landscape of the city of Brisbane.

I love my city of Brisbane, so give me Brisbane any day.

Man who dismembered girlfriend with circular saw gets 28 years’ jail

A MAN who claimed his live-in lover had died an accidental death before he cut up her body with a power saw has been jailed for at least 21 years for her murder.

Neal Richardson’s treatment of the body was partly an “expression of anger and hatred” towards Kiralee Grant, Justice Lucy McCullum said in the NSW Supreme Court today.

Richardson, 45, was found guilty last November of murdering Ms Grant, 41, in April 2010, at the unit they shared in Malabar in Sydney’s east.

He dismembered her body, included cutting off her hands and nipples, before he put the pieces in garbage bags and dumped them on a rural property on the NSW south coast.

Justice McCullum expressed her sympathy to the parents of Ms Grant, whose twin sister was murdered in Brisbane in 1991.

The judge found Richardson was partly motivated to cut up the body to remove evidence of injuries inflicted by him.
She noted the jury rejected his claim that Ms Grant, a prostitute who was a heavy user of drugs and alcohol, died when she hit her head on a coffee table after falling during a fight.

Ms Grant died the day before she was due to give evidence against Richardson, who had initially been refused bail after being charged with assaulting her in October 2009.

“The existence of the charge and the impending hearing is relevant to an assessment of the offender’s likely state of mind on the night he killed Ms Grant,” the judge said.

On the night she died, Ms Grant borrowed a mobile phone from a neighbour to call her bank to order a new card as she had lost her purse.

“The recordings of those telephone calls are chilling,” the judge said.

“They reveal that Ms Grant was at times incoherent, angry, frustrated and distressed.

“The offender, by contrast, was calm, politely providing the information required by the bank.”

The judge was satisfied Ms Grant rang the bank under threat from Richardson and “that she was in grave fear of harm at his hands at that time”.

She found Richardson had formed the intention to kill Ms Grant and was forcing her to make the calls so he would have access to her bank account after her death.

The judge set a maximum term of 28 years.
